Very Humorous, H&R Block!

H&R Block ad today:

"You may wonder how the Affordable Care Act will effect your taxes. You'll have lots of questions. And that's OK!"

In fact, I'd say it's way more than "OK" with H&R that you will have lots of questions! You know, given they have spent millions making sure you have lots of tax questions.

  1. My mind went a somewhat different place with this:

"You may wonder how the Affordable Care Act will effect your taxes. You'll have lots of questions. And that's NOT OK! Questions about how the ACA will effect your taxes are a red flag that will get you selected for a random audit and possibly placed on a terrorist watch-list. If you know what's good for you, you'll just pick the standard deduction and mail the IRS a check for whatever amount we tell you."

  2. A high school classmate who I have contact with on Facebook, and who works for H&R block, spammed us all last year during tax season with a post stating that American taxpayers who did their own taxes collectively left a billion dollars in missed refunds (or overpayment) to the government. My response to him in a FB comment:

So a third of Americans file their own taxes:
    http://www.people-press.org/2013/04/11/a-third-of-americans-say-they-like-doing-their-income-taxes/
… and about 145 million total returns:

That’s 47 million self filings. Dividing a billion dollars by 47 million filings gives just over $21 dollars “lost” per filing. What does H&R Block charge?
